Participants will gain an understanding of:

– The history of the initial research which led to the establishment of clinical utility of BED, and evidenced the need for treatment protocols and the inclusion in DSM-5;

– The current lack of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment tools for BED within the eating disorder treatment professionals community and what is needed to increase the knowledge of current and future providers to adequately service this particular community of sufferers;

– The pitfalls for eating disorder treatment professionals who do not have specific BED treatment training and the potential “harms” that are a result of these untrained assessments and interventions; and

– The evolving “best practices” in treatment and will recognize several of the emerging subgroups of BED that have been identified through research and clinical recognition of presentation.
